The Steampunk World

Being the continued explorations of a living steampunk.

The steampunk world is all around us, lying just out of sight, in a continuous thread of steampunk builders and culture that extends from the Victorian era to the present. You'll find no science fiction here: This is real life steampunk.

Thursday nights are cider tasting nights out at the orchard. Harvesting from trees his grandfather planted, this guy makes cider in a cellar where it's been made for 200 years. Not only does he have various vintages available, we tasted some French and Spanish Cider. Someone had some wild boar pate- scrumporkilicious! Like pork squared.

Spent the weekend camping by the Bristol Channel at the Clunker Classic III. Writeup of the race at chicagofreakbike. After the race we heard quite a racket and lo and behold a brigade of Scottish pipers came marching in! They were at the campsite next door. I grabbed a chopper and escorted them as they played Scotland the Brave. It was a wonderful, surreal moment.

Then they wanted to give it a go. I love the way this guy's kilt is flapping in the wind as he rounds the corner:
