The Steampunk World

Being the continued explorations of a living steampunk.

The steampunk world is all around us, lying just out of sight, in a continuous thread of steampunk builders and culture that extends from the Victorian era to the present. You'll find no science fiction here: This is real life steampunk.

Halloween was, of course, crazy. I dressed as a Garthim from The Dark Crystal. Lil' Gordie asked me how many people I thought would know what I was, and I said four. At the end of the night, five had named it. One of the fun things about dressing as something so geekily esoteric is that the people who do recognize it, love it.

I put a lot of effort into my costume, and it was a really scary outfit if you were a little kid. My favorite part of the night was chasing kids all around Daley Plaza. I tell you, all the hard work pays off when you see the tears in a child's eyes.

In a particularly sitcomesque moment, I woke up the next day on a friend's futon... next to Medusa! A-hoy-hoyyyyy!
