The Break The Gridlock conference is an annual gathering of transportation advocates- cyclists, pedestrians, and rail promoters- who seek to end car dependency in our city. They give out Wizard Of Oz themed awards for people who advance the cause in a nontraditional way rather than through the usual channels of advocacy. The idea is to encourage those who might otherwise receive no recognition.

They award the "ruby slippers" to the overall winner, and then give out Lion, Tin Man, and Scarecrow awards for people who demonstrate courage, heart, and brains.

They gave me the "Flying Monkey" award. They say it's a good thing.
